The elite of the cuisine
The Basque Culinary Centre integrates a Faculty of Gastronomic
Sciences located in Donostia-San Sebastian attached to University of Mondragon
and a Research and Innovation Centre in Food and Gastronomy. It is a pioneer
centre that opened its classrooms in 2011.
The start-up of this culinary project started from several
objectives. The first is the need to develop the potential of cuisine as a
sector of innovation in the future, which also implies the generation of
high-level knowledge and the training of qualified professionals. The second
one would be the challenge of promoting research and the transfer of knowledge
between professionals in the gastronomy and the business sectors. And third, to achieve an international projection.
The academic centre, which imparts university studies for the
youngest of the Degree in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts in order to generate
high level knowledge and train qualified professionals, it’s constituted as the
second gastronomy university of all Europe.
In Spain until the launch of this project, there was no formal
educational offer at the university in the field of gastronomy. Thus, they thought it was a
unique idea and an incredible challenge for business from a professional point of view.
In Basque Culinary Centre the students spend most of
their time in workshops where they learn by doing, working in the faculty
restaurants developing their capacities in a real work environment and
participating in activities
where they create and manage their own gastronomic events.

So…why to Study in The Basque Country and especially in the BCC?
Because in Donostia-San Sebastian as in the rest of Basque
Country, the gastronomy is a part of the society and the good taste is present
at any event and celebration.
And because four of the nine restaurants with three Michelin
stars in Spain are in the Basque Country, and three of them just in Donostia-San
Sebastian.
In the next post I’ll talk about them, so stay tuned for more!
Thank yoouuu guys!!!! :)
